The remains of a paved road are just barely visible following the curve of the hills going east to west. The desert has almost erased it. Ahead squatting amongst the rocky foothills is a forest of pipes and gantries rising a hundred feet above the hard pan. The remains of the chain link fence still mark the perimeter of the complex, old, busted in flood lights spaced evenly along its boundary. The main gate is wide open, and the small security station’s wall has partially fallen in. A metal sign, barely legible, reads “Authorized Persons Only”. Another, smaller sign reads “Work Gangs Must Be Accompanied By Labour Organizer”. Inside the gate there are half a dozen small buildings, crude tin sheet boxes. Some are two or three stories tall. What few windows there are are small and dark. One building looks to be a vehicle depot of sorts but there is only the remains of a half-assembled frame for some large six wheeled hauler and a scattering of scrap parts. Everything has been blasted by decades of wind and sand, fading the green paint of the buildings and the once vibrant red warning markings. Everything is muted, even the hollow sound of the wind blowing through the dilapidated structures.

The party entered one of the low, rectangular buildings when they first arrived. Inside they found A small room open to a metal stair well that switched back as it descended into the darkness. There were two lockers, inside they found a dataslate and two glo-rods. Turning on the glo-rods (which still held a weak charge) they closed the outside door and tried to seal up any cracks as best they could to limit the amount of radioactive dust that would be blown in once the fallout from the Cassilda’s reactor meltdown began settle. Then they took the creaking stair well down into the heart of the refinery, their glo-rods the only light. The air was still and dry and a faintly acrid chemical odour.

The stair well wound down along the walls of a roughly cylindrical shaft, through the centre of which ran a massive column of pipes and support structure which spidered out and linked up with valves and junctions occasionally set in the cavern walls. At some point far below the surface they encountered a small landings where some metal structure had been built into the cavern wall. There was a large door on a heavy hing, and inside a short hallway ending in another door like the first. The stair well continued lower down. In the hallway were the mummified remains of a person, probably a tech-priest given the rusted assembly of servo arms and mechanical implants found.
